Malo Louarn, Breton comic strip artist, died at the age of 74

He died at the age of 74, following a long illness. Malo Louarn, a comic book artist established in Finistère, died on Sunday. The announcement was made by his family. Monday evening, his daughter Gwennyn paid tribute to her father. “My father Malo Louarn died yesterday. He leaves a family devastated by sadness, but a magnificent work, humorous drawings, sublime comic strips, thousands of sketches and an extraordinary fantasy in our daily lives… and laughter…”, testified the Breton singer on his social networks.

Born in Melun, Malo Louarn contributed to several comics magazines in the 1970s such as Spirou Or Tintin before working for various television channels for which he produced humorous cartoons. Passionate about football, he had seen his drawings published in the newspaper Spirou be reissued as a trilogy in 2010 under the titles Star, The Vodkagrad Cannoneer And The Mole of Botagogo. He is also the author of the series Rona.

In a message published on X, the president of the Brittany region Loïg Chesnais-Girard paid tribute to the designer. “Breton among Bretons, he had all the qualities: funny, rebellious, human… Malo Louarn has left us. His pencil stroke will be sorely missed in our Brittany.”
