The Ballermann on Mallorca has been full of tourists from Germany again since the end of April. The first weeks of the new party season have already been overshadowed by two fatal accidents.

A German tourist is up Mallorca probably died after falling from a hotel balcony. The 21-year-old’s body was discovered by friends on Monday morning on Playa de Palma in a side street below the balcony, reported the “Diario de Mallorca” and other media on the Spanish Mediterranean island, citing the authorities. The police confirmed this information upon request.

The authorities launched an investigation. They assume an accident. The young man probably fell from the balcony on the second floor on Monday night after returning to the hotel with friends at around 3 a.m. after a night of partying. The victim was only missing by his companions hours later. They discovered the lifeless body shortly after 8 a.m. and alerted the police. The newspaper “Última Hora”, citing the authorities, writes that the German probably sat on the balcony railing to smoke and lost his balance.

This is the second accident in May in which a tourist from Germany died on the so-called Ballermann. Just two weeks ago, on May 7th, a 23-year-old died in a fall. The exact circumstances are still being investigated by the authorities. According to previous findings, this young man was attacked at night after a party and lost his hotel key. While drunk, he is said to have tried to climb over the facade onto the balcony of his room.

In Mallorca there are always fatal falls of tourists from balconies. The phenomenon is known as balconing. Most of the drunk holidaymakers have locked themselves out or want to jump from the balcony into the pool as a test of courage. After the start of the party season, Playa de Palma has been full of tourists again since the end of April, most of whom – unlike the visitors to the English party stronghold Magaluf west of Palma – come from Germany.
