Eight Germans are said to have started a fire near the Ballermann on the Spanish holiday island. They have been in custody for almost two months now. But now it could happen quickly.

In the case of the eight Germans who have been in custody on Mallorca for almost two months on charges of arson, things could soon start moving, according to the lawyer. The public prosecutor’s office is now also pleading for the release of their clients on bail, lawyer Maria Barbancho Saborit told regional media such as “Mallorca Zeitung” and “Mallorca Magazin” on Wednesday.

In view of the new development, they now want to try to change the judge’s mind and obtain a release. It is possible that the judge will make a decision on Thursday or Friday. If this is positive, the cone brothers would be released immediately under certain conditions, the lawyer explained. At the request of the German Press Agency, the public prosecutor initially did not comment on this.

Suspects are said to have started the fire

The members of a Münster bowling club are accused of starting a fire near the Ballermann on Playa de Palma on May 20, shortly after their arrival on the island. They are said to have thrown burning butts and alcohol from the balcony of their hotel room onto the thatched roof of the terrace of a restaurant below. The roof caught fire and two pubs, an apartment and parts of the restaurant were damaged. Two people suffered minor injuries.

The young people deny setting the fire. The group included a total of 13 vacationers. One of them was released without conditions the day after the fire. He had been able to prove that he was in the shower when the fire broke out. Four suspects were allowed to leave the prison in Palma after around two and a half weeks after paying bail of 12,000 euros each.
