Mainfranken Theater could reopen in December – Bavaria

After the renovation of the Mainfranken Theater in Würzburg is taking longer than originally planned, a new opening date for the small venue is now in the pipeline. From the point of view of the planners, public use at the beginning of December is possible, according to a report by the architects, which was presented to the responsible committee of the Würzburg City Council on Wednesday evening.

The theater, built in 1966, has been renovated since 2018. The performances were outsourced to temporary venues. The reopening of the original building is currently expected for 2026. It was originally planned for 2022. In addition, the theater will receive a new small venue. Its opening was originally planned for 2020 and was then repeatedly postponed.

The refurbishment will also be significantly more expensive than initially calculated: while 72 million euros were estimated in 2018, 103 million euros have already been in the room since autumn 2021. With the redesign, the theater is to become a state theater.
