Main air traffic controllers union announces ‘Olympic truce’ of strikes

The main French air traffic controllers’ union is pausing its social mobilizations until September 2024. It pledged this Tuesday not to call a strike between now and the end of the sequence of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, announced one of its managers. The principle of this “Olympic truce” accepted by the SNCTA union had previously been communicated by the Minister for Transport Clément Beaune.

These announcements came at the end of conciliation meetings between two unions of air traffic controllers and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) which also made it possible to lift a strike notice planned for September 15. The agreement concluded provides for “an increase in compensation”, “a commitment to an Olympic truce until September 2024” and the principle of new salary discussions at this deadline, declared one of the national secretaries of the SNCTA on condition of anonymity.

“Avoid any social movements”

Earlier Tuesday, Clément Beaune welcomed “the commitment made by unions to avoid any social movements during the current and future major sporting events of the Olympic and Paralympic Games”. He was also delighted that the lifting of the notice period on September 15 would allow the Rugby World Cup “to take place peacefully”.

The strike initially planned for the 15th was not linked to this competition, underlined the head of the SNCTA, but to the deadline of the 2024 finance bill in which the DGAC budget is defined.
