Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim in an interview: “I was a nerdy kid” – Culture

Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim is a star of science journalism; her new non-fiction books for children are bestsellers. A conversation about dinosaurs, chemistry and hate on the internet.

Since 2016, Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim has been known for YouTube videos in which she explains complicated science in simple terms. First on her YouTube channel MaiLab, later on ARD, and since 2021 with various formats on ZDF. After two non-fiction bestsellers, a non-fiction series for children has been in bookstores since this spring – “BiBiBiber has a question” – in which she answers children’s questions together with the author Marie Meimberg: The first two volumes, “Are Dinos Are they all really dead?” and “Why do stars shine?” are ranked first and second Mirror-Bestseller list for children’s books. Nguyen-Kim and Meimberg explain dinosaur relationships as a climbing frame and the periodic table of elements with building blocks. In the interview, Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim sits in her tidy workplace: blue wall, white furniture, a microphone above her face.
