MagSafe is the name of the magnetic charging function for iPhone and Mac. The MagSafe guide reveals which gadgets for smartphones are particularly clever.

Most Apple fans are likely to be familiar with MagSafe. Apple means nothing other than the magnetic charging port that is on the back of its iPhones or the charging socket of the MacBook is installed. The term first appeared with folding computers. In 2006, Apple introduced the magnetic holder with charging function for the first time. From 2006 to 2015 it was part of the Mac Book Pros and from 2008 to 2017 the MacBook Airs.

Apple fans missed them so much that the manufacturer put them back into operation in 2021. The reason is simple: If Mac Book users carelessly stumble over the charging cable, they will tear the entire computer off the table without MagSafe. With MagSafe, only the connection between the magnets is released.

From the twelfth iPhone generation onwards, MagSafe – or simply a ring-shaped magnet – is located on the back of the iPhone. This is even more practical with a smartphone than with a laptop. So it’s no wonder that there are now many gadgets that make use of the magnetic holder. Let’s take a look at which ones are particularly clever.

MagSafe Apple case

Let’s start with something basic, namely one Case for your iPhonethat MagSafe offers. This means two things: Firstly, there is a magnetic ring in the case and secondly, your iPhone can also be charged wirelessly through the case. Apple’s silicone cases offer both out of the box. However, their price is quite steep at just under 50 euros. It is cheaper if you rely on third-party providers such as this one Belkin model. By the way, we will come across the manufacturer more often.

MagSafe car mount

Like the car mount, for example MagSafe connection. This is certainly more comfortable than a normal clamp holder with a USB charging cable for the iPhone. Logically, the iPhone’s USB-C or Lightning socket remains free and this can be particularly advantageous in older cars if you want to play music via your smartphone using an AUX adapter because your car radio does not yet have Bluetooth or the Bluetooth Version is too old.

MagSafe charging cube

Who doesn’t know it: In the evening, iPhone, Airpods and Apple Watch find their place on the bedside table. However, three chargers and a multiple socket create a lot of cable clutter and don’t look particularly nice. With no tangled cables and nice and tidy, all three charge on the Loading cube from Anker. By the way, it is also a clever travel companion. This is also recommended Charging station for all three Belkin deviceswhich takes up significantly more space when you’re on the go, but looks very chic.

MagSafe charging cable

If you just want to charge your iPhone, you can of course also use the simple one MagSafe charging cable approved by Apple. Important: A charger is not included. Its advantage is also that the USB-C or Lightning socket is still available when you charge your iPhone.

MagSafe wallet

iPhone, keys, wallet, chewing gum, Airpods – our pockets often overflow when we’re out and about. It’s always more space-saving if we use ours wallet simply stick it on our iPhone. Thanks to Apple Pay on our smartphone or watch, we don’t need debit or credit cards anyway and the MagSafe wallet is always enough for a driver’s license, ID card, health card and some cash.

Apple MagSafe grip for the iPhone

If your iPhone tends to fall out of your hand, the MagSafe magnet can also be used for security. By attaching an additional bracket to it like this one Model of anchor. There is a ring on it that has two functions: firstly, it holds the iPhone securely by putting your index finger through it and secondly, it serves as a stand if you want to place the iPhone on a table. Practical if you are traveling by train and want to watch a film or series.

MagSafe power bank

Who doesn’t know it: you’re completely lost on vacation in a foreign city and without a smartphone. But especially when GPS, Bluetooth and mobile communications are used at the same time, the iPhone’s battery shrinks at record speed. With a normal power bank, an unsightly cable sticks out of your pocket to power your phone. This one, on the other hand, is more relaxed MagSafe power bank from Anker. It is simply attached to the back of the iPhone and provides power wirelessly. According to the manufacturer, up to 18 hours of additional video playback thanks to 5000 milliamp hours. That should be enough to cope with one or two unknown extra laps while sightseeing. Important: The power bank does not work if the iPhone case does not have MagSafe, i.e. it is a normal case without a magnet.

MagSafe mount for the webcam

And last but not least, a gadget for the home office. If you are disappointed with the quality of your webcam or your screen does not offer a webcam and you find the angle of the laptop camera unpleasant, there is one too Magsafe mount, which turns your iPhone into a webcam. Ideally, your Mac must be running macOS 14 and your iPhone must be running iPhone OS 17, both devices must have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth activated and both must be logged in with the same Apple ID. Then simply attach the iPhone to the screen in landscape format so that the rear camera is pointing at your face. And then you should be able to select the camera in FaceTime, for example.
