It’s not just the FC St. Pauli footballers who have been promoted to the Bundesliga. The chess players also manage the feat. And they will receive sensational support from Magnus Carlsen for the new season.

The FC St. Pauli’s chess team gets spectacular access for the coming season after its promotion to the Bundesliga. Former world champion Magnus Carlsen will play for Hamburg. The 33-year-old Norwegian’s commitment is made possible through the cooperation of entrepreneur Jan Henric Büttner’s Weissenhaus Chess Academy and FC St. Pauli.

For Carlsen, St. Pauli is the “coolest brand in Germany”

The collaboration is long-term and will also include joint communication measures with Carlsen, the Chess Academy said in a statement on Thursday. “I’m happy to be part of the coolest brand in Germany,” said the chess superstar. After the chess players, the footballers also secured promotion to the Bundesliga on Sunday.

Carlsen is considered one of the best chess players in history. He was world champion from 2013 to 2023. A year ago he gave up the title. He has also won world championship titles in blitz and rapid chess several times.
