Magic Mushrooms, Ketamine and Charcoal: Psychedelic Drugs in Davos Culture

It was a long way from the hippie communes of San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighborhood to the Psychedelic House of Davos. Of course, this week’s World Summit of Class Enemies isn’t about replacing the champagne bars with a trip hut. As always, there in the Swiss mountains it’s about money with a lot of zeros. But it is also about a revolution in psychotherapy. And what the electronic music star Jon Hopkins called “Psychedelic Renaissance” describes. In order to understand why high finance, industry and science are suddenly interested in things that young people with dubious hygiene and social skills used to whistle into, one should first free oneself from the introduced cultural concept of psychedelics.
