Emmanuel Macron alerted this Wednesday, by opening a Health Defense Council, on the “dramatic situation” of the epidemic in the West Indies, where “the increase in contaminations results in an explosion of serious forms” of Covid-19 and a saturation of hospitals.
“An emergency scenario is before us today”, this situation “implies the unconditional solidarity of the Nation” and offers “the cruel demonstration” that “vaccination is the most effective means” in the face of the virus, underlined the Head of State during this Defense Council by videoconference from Fort de Brégançon (Var).
“The health crisis is not behind us, very clearly, we will live for several more months with the virus”, also warned Emmanuel Macron. In addition to the outbreak of Covid-19 cases in the West Indies, the Head of State underlined “the worrying state of affairs” in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Corsica and Occitanie regions, where the incidence rate exceeds 500 cases per 100,000 and raises fears of hospital pressure, he added.
