Macron announces the launch of a huge call for tenders in 2025

The government wants to move up a gear on renewable energy produced off our coasts. It will thus launch a huge call for tenders in 2025 for the installation of offshore wind farms with the aim of producing 10 gigawatts in 2035, Emmanuel Macron announced this Tuesday at noon during the foundations of the maritime economy In Nantes.

“In 2025, we will already launch ten gigawatts, that is to say around ten parks which will come into force in 2030-2035,” declared the Head of State. A production of 10 GW is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 10 million homes.

The second source after nuclear

France currently has 8 GW of offshore parks installed or planned. The government’s objective is to reach 45 GW in 2050, which will make offshore wind the second source of electricity production after nuclear power.

Only one park is currently completely completed, the so-called Saint-Nazaire wind farm, off the coast of Loire-Atlantique, made up of 80 wind turbines. The full commissioning of the Saint-Brieuc park (Côtes-d’Armor) is also imminent. Wind turbine installation work is also underway off the coast of Fécamp (Seine-Maritime) and Courseulles-sur-Mer (Calvados), pending the start of the projects on the islands of Yeu and Noirmoutier (Vendée), Dieppe ( Seine-Maritime) and Dunkirk (North).
