Macron against the unvaccinated, explosion of cases in the United States and terrorist trail on the Dakar

Did you miss the news from the start of the morning? We have concocted a recap to help you see more clearly.

Can a president say that? Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday, in an interview with Parisian, be determined to “piss off” the unvaccinated “to the end” by “limiting for them, as much as possible, access to social activities”. This extremely direct way of revealing the strategy of the executive did not take long to make the opposition react, in full examination of the bill on the vaccine pass. While an appeasement was initiated in the National Assembly after the pause of the debates on the night of Monday to Tuesday, the examination was again suspended in the middle of the night Wednesday because of the storm caused by these remarks. “The conditions for a calm work are not met”, declared shortly before 2 am the chairman of the session, Marc Le Fur (LR), announcing that the debates of this first reading would resume Wednesday at 3 pm.

Even if it is to be put into perspective, the figure is particularly symbolic. It even makes you dizzy. The United States, facing a worrying fifth wave of Covid-19, recorded more than a million reported cases on Monday. This world record should however be taken with caution because the number of cases recorded on Monday is generally very high, especially after a three-day weekend as was the case for the New Year in the United States. The average of cases over seven days, deemed more significant by experts, stood on Monday evening at nearly 486,000 daily cases.

For justice, it is possible that the Dakar 2022 was a victim of terrorism. A preliminary investigation was indeed opened for “attempted assassinations in connection with a terrorist enterprise”, after “the explosion which hit the vehicle occupied by a crew of five French”, in Saudi Arabia, announced the Public Prosecutor’s Office. National Anti-Terrorism (PNAT), Tuesday. The investigations into this explosion on December 30 in Jeddah, which “seriously injured the driver of the car”, are entrusted to the Directorate of Internal Security (DGSI).
