Lyon supporters banned from traveling to Marseille for a risky Olympico

The late match of the 10th day of Ligue 1 between Olympique de Marseille and Olympique Lyonnais, Wednesday at 8:45 p.m., will be played without OL supporters. Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin on Tuesday banned the travel of Rhone fans for this match, rescheduled after the stones of the buses of Lyon players and fans en route to the Vélodrome stadium on October 29.

In the decree published in the Official Journal on Tuesday, this ban is justified by a “real and serious risk of clashes between supporters of the two clubs”.

When the bus was stoned by Marseille supporters, Fabio Grosso, who was then OL coach, was injured in the face by shards of glass, along with seven other Lyonnais.

“Nazi salutes” among Lyon supporters

Gérald Darmanin’s order also underlines that that day “Nazi salutes as well as racist and homophobic remarks were observed among Lyon supporters, themselves insulted in the stands by their Marseille counterparts”.

After the incidents of October 29, several investigations were opened by the Marseille prosecutor’s office.
