Lyon dominates Monaco and is getting closer to the podium! – Players’ brief and NOTES (OL 2-0 Monaco) – Football

In the shock of the 10th day of Ligue 1, Lyon won home against Monaco (2-0), this Saturday evening. A success that allows OL to return to the standings while waiting for Sunday’s matches.

Lyon leaps in the standings with their success against Monaco

After two consecutive draws in the league, especially in the derby against Saint-Etienne (1-1) before the international break, Olympique Lyonnais resumed its march forward against AS Monaco (2-0), this Saturday, during of the 10th day of Ligue 1.

Dominant, despite a drop in speed at the start of the second period, OL won a well-deserved success which allowed them to temporarily move up to 5th place in the standings (equal points with 3rd, Nice), two units ahead of their evening opponent, 8th. After this first defeat since September 11, ASM will have to raise their heads against PSV Eindhoven on Thursday in the Europa League, while Lyon are well prepared for their trip to Sparta Prague.

Nbel saves Monaco

After twenty first minutes balanced and poor in chances between two teams that feared each other a lot, the Lyonnais took the upper hand in this part. Toko Ekambi offered himself two great opportunities in less than five minutes for OL: a shot in the box captured by Nbel, then a head thrown back by the Mongolian goalkeeper near his post. ASM could thank its last bulwark!

Finally launched in this meeting, the Gones insisted on cracking the Principality club. Cherki also stumbled on Nbel, then Aouar tried his turn without finding the frame on a strike from the inside of the area. Monaco was trembling, but held on. Finally, Niko Kovac’s men let the storm pass in this first act and ended a little better by putting their foot on the ball.

Paqueta changes everything, Disasi cracks …

After the return from the locker room, OL had more difficulties. The Gones multiplied the technical errors and Monaco took the opportunity to bring the danger in front of Pollersbeck’s goal. The Lyon goalkeeper, who was his first tenure in Ligue 1, had to work on a Martins strike that took the net. The ASM had several opportunities but lacked lucidity, the image of an uninspired Volland in this evening.

Monaco had missed its chance. With the entry of a radiant Paqueta, Lyon regained their collective superiority displayed in the first period and took the advantage a quarter of an hour from the end. Disasi mowed down Dubois in the box and offered a penalty Toko Ekambi, who was rewarded for his good game by giving the advantage to the Rhone club (1-0, 75th). The Mongasques will not recover and conceded a second goal from Denayer (2-0, 90th + 1). End of the suspense.

The score of the match: 6/10

This shock of the 10th day of Ligue 1 took a long time to start. The stakes had taken precedence over the game in a relatively poor first period of opportunities, despite some opportunities for OL. The game got off to a good start in the second period.

The goals :

– Toko Ekambi takes little plan and hits his penalty on the left of Nbel, who started on the wrong side (1-0, 75 ‘).

– Paqueta fixes two Mongasques on the left side and finds Emerson on a blind pass. The left side crosses in front of the goal and Denayer resumes point blank (2-0, 90th + 1).

Player NOTES

Maxifoot has awarded a score (out of 10) comments on each player.

Man of the match: Karl Toko Ekambi (8/10)

His goal, from the penalty spot, offers Lyon a precious victory. And it is totally deserved for the Lyon striker! In a first padlocked act, he is the one who could have broken the lock on two clear occasions. His ball catches in the last thirty meters were often synonymous with danger for the Mongascian defense, damaged by the arabesques of the Cameroonian international.

LYON :

Julian Pollersbeck (6.5): for his first match as a starter in L1, the Lyon goalkeeper was not too worried. Watching out for an attempt by Martins in the first half, he folded well on the strike from the Mongascian striker in the second act.

Lo Dubois (6): the right side allows his team to take the advantage by obtaining the penalty. In the game, the French international was serious defensively and did not hesitate to take his lane, with a little too much waste in the first period.

Jrme Boateng (7): the former Bayern Munich defender was impeccable defensively in this match. He also spoke about his quality of recovery, as on this beautiful pass which offered a chance to score Toko Ekambi in the first period.

Jason Denayer (6): serious in the first period, the Belgian defender suffered a big hollow in the second act after a bad appreciation which offers Martins an opportunity. Less serene then, he made up for it by scoring OL’s second goal. What to forget this small empty passage.

Emerson (6): Usually very offensive, the Italian international focused on his defensive task. And he did it quite well, regularly taking the upper hand over Martins. He punctuated his serious performance with a decisive pass for Denayer.

Maxence Caqueret (5.5): the midfielder was good in the midfield in the first half, scratching balls and often playing very fair, the image of his center millimeter for the head of Toko Ekambi. He then experienced a slight drop in revs.

Bruno Guimares (6): a great activity in the midfield to recover many balls. Very valuable in the laundry.

Xherdan Shaqiri (3): the evening disappointment on the Lyon side. He has tried difficult things, with relatively little success. Replace the 67th by Tino Kadewere (not rated).

Houssem Aouar (4): the image of Shaqiri, this match is forgotten. He multiplied the bad choices and the losses of ball, in particular in the first period. He also misses a shot that does not find the frame.

Karl Toko Ekambi (8): read the comment above.

Rayan Cherki (4): after his enchanting break with the Espoirs (3 goals in 2 games), the young striker had a chance to score points in the club. He tried to exist in pointe, but his influence was limited. Replace the 67th by Lucas Paqueta (not rated), who woke up his team. What to prove once again that it is essential. His pass on the second base is a treat.
