Lyon advance to European Challenge semi-finals after win over Glasgow

The LOU had the fangs. Led until the 71st minute, Lyon made a superb comeback in the second half to win at Gerland against Glasgow (35-27) and reach the semi-finals of the European Challenge.

From the start of the match, the two teams tried to put pressure on each other. The LOU opened hostilities thanks to a penalty from Léo Berdeu. But the Scots did not tremble. On the contrary, they surprised Lyon by scoring a try in the 6th. Led 13-6 after a game of penalties taking the teams until the 35th minute, the Lyonnais raised their tone and scored a try through Baptiste Couilloud. At the end of the first period, the LOU paid for his absences. The first act turns to the advantage of Glasgow, which punishes the men of Pierre Mignoni before the break (40th) thanks to a try from Cole Forbes. In the lead after returning from the locker room (20-13), the Scots even took a serious option on qualification by benefiting from a penalty try in the 51st (27-13).

The LOU inflicted a 22-0 to the Glasgow Warriors in the second half.

But this try will be the last for the Warriors. The LOU woke up and overturned the encounter. Thanks to the tests of Davit Niniashvili (56th) and Romain Taofifénua (62nd) in particular, Lyon regained the psychological ascendancy and allowed themselves to dream as the last ten minutes approached. The Georgian rear of LOU once again made the difference (76th) to offer victory to the Rhodaniens, well helped by a Léo Berdeu applied throughout the meeting (two conversions, three penalties).

In the semi-finals, Le LOU will challenge Wasps, who defeated Edinburgh (30-34) earlier this Saturday.
