Lufthansa: What the arbitration is about – economics

It will be decided on Thursday whether customers of Germany’s largest airline can travel over Easter. However, ground service employees are not the only professional group with which Lufthansa is currently negotiating.

For many Lufthansa customers with travel plans for the Easter holidays, next Thursday is a pretty important date. Until then, the two arbitrators, Thuringia’s Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow and the former head of the Federal Labor Office, Frank-Jürgen Weise, want to reach a compromise in the deadlocked wage dispute between the airline and its ground service employees represented by the Verdi union. If the arbitration fails, there is a risk of strikes during the holiday season.
