Voiceover: An impoverished fisherman from Thailand made the catch of his life on Monday. Narong Petcharat was returning to the bank when he saw a strange object floating in the surf. As he got closer, he realized it was a lump of ambergris. The substance is produced in the digestive tract of sperm whales and is used in the manufacture of expensive perfumes. Earlier finds reached prices of up to 37,000 euros per kilogram – Petcharat’s pile of whale pots could be worth more than a million euros. The 56-year-old has already had the material tested at a university – it is clearly ambergris. Now Petcharat wants to sell the lump to the highest bidder. After that, he no longer wants to work as a fisherman – but first of all to throw a party for his friends.
