LR senators create a working group on the “trans-identification of minors”

The senators Les Républicains announced Thursday the creation of a “working group on the transidentification of minors”, which will be interested in “the growing increase in requests for sex changes among children and especially adolescents”.

Composed of 18 LR senators, this working group will be led by Val-d’Oise senator Jacqueline Eustache-Brinio and will begin its work on May 31.

An “evolution of the legislative framework” to come?

“While the influence of social networks gives new visibility to ‘gender dysphoria’, or the feeling of being born in the ‘wrong body’, it seems legitimate for the subject to be carefully considered by the legislator”, indicates the LR group in a press release.

The working group “will hear many experts” (doctors, associations, lawyers, international experts) “before considering a possible change in the legislative framework concerning minors”, he specifies.

During the examination in the Senate in December 2021 of a bill from the presidential majority to clearly ban pseudo “conversion therapies”, practices aimed at imposing heterosexuality on lesbian, gay, bi and trans (LGBT) people , Eustache-Brinio had proposed, without success, to prohibit puberty blocking treatments, hormone therapies and surgical operations before the age of 18.
