A driver runs over a 58-year-old pedestrian, who does not survive despite quick help. When searching for the fleeting car involved in the accident, investigators are hoping for a certain detail.

After the fatal accident in Delmenhorst investigators want to locate the accident car through a torn-off exterior mirror. The driver fled on Sunday evening after the collision in a Delmenhorst residential area without paying any attention to the injured pedestrian. Any help came too late for the 58-year-old man.

Residents called 911 on Sunday evening after hearing a loud bang and seeing an injured man lying on the street. They cared for the injured person until emergency services arrived. However, he died from his serious injuries at the scene of the accident.

Only an outside mirror remained

According to current findings, the man was about to cross the street in a 30 zone when he was hit by the car, a police spokesman said on Monday. According to witness statements, it was a dark SUV and the police believe it was a slightly older model. The car was probably damaged and an outside mirror was left at the scene of the accident.

An attempt is now being made to determine the exact model and to compare the registrations in the area, said the police spokesman. The investigators are not only looking for witnesses to the accident and a possible escape route. They also contact workshops or “private mechanics” to whom the car could possibly be taken.

In order to reconstruct the fatal accident in the residential area, the tracks at the impact site were carefully measured and an expert was commissioned to analyze the accident. A crisis intervention team took over the care of the man’s relatives and the witnesses.
