Four dead after a serious car accident in Lower Saxony

A car with five young passengers leaves the road in Lower Saxony and crashes into a tree. The cause is unclear. Meanwhile, the accident claims the fourth fatality.

After an accident involving five young people Cars near Salzhemmendorf in Lower Saxony, the number of deaths has increased to four. As the police in Hameln announced on Tuesday, the 20-year-old driver who was seriously injured in the accident on Sunday also died in a hospital in Hanover. Three of his passengers, aged between 18 and 20, died immediately in the accident.

According to the police on Tuesday, the fifth vehicle occupant, a 17-year-old, was treated further in a hospital for his serious injuries. His health condition was currently assessed as “stable”.

The background to the accident in Lower Saxony remains unclear

According to investigators, the car driven by the 20-year-old left the road on a country road on Sunday for reasons that are still unclear and crashed into a tree. The vehicle was extremely deformed.

No other cars were apparently involved. The public prosecutor had the vehicle involved in the accident confiscated to preserve evidence. The inmates were four young men and one young woman from the region.
