Lowa: A triathlete is the new boss of the shoe manufacturer – these are his plans – business

Johann Thurner, 59, has been working at Lowa for 40 years, as a cutter for 20 years, and until 2012 his most important tools were stencils, knives and his hands. Now he is standing at a machine with a rectangular, slightly sloping worktop over which a screen hangs. There, Thurner reads what the modelers in the development department one floor above him need. “I make complete shoes here, but in individual parts,” says Thurner. A Lowa mountain shoe consists of 200 such pieces made of different materials. Thurner sets the cutting machine as specified and starts it. A tiny knife cuts the desired item automatically and precisely from the leather within seconds.
