Loud explosion near Parliament in Ankara called ‘terrorist attack’

An explosion occurred on Sunday morning in the center of the Turkish capital Ankara, near the Parliament. It was described as a “terrorist attack” by the Turkish Interior Ministry. “Two terrorists presented themselves aboard a commercial vehicle around 9:30 a.m. (6:30 a.m. French time) in front of the entrance gate of the General Directorate of Security of our Ministry of the Interior and carried out a bomb attack,” indicated this ministry, reporting two injured among the police officers.

“One of the terrorists blew himself up and the other was neutralized. Two of our police officers were slightly injured” by the flames caused by the explosion, specifies the ministry on X (ex-Twitter).

The targeted district is home to numerous ministries and the parliament which is due to open its new working session during the day and to which the head of state, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was due to speak, according to Turkish media.

The private television channel NTV reported shootings in the completely cordoned off neighborhood and where numerous police vehicles and ambulances were deployed.
