Lost Places: The Tragic Story of the Abandoned City of Granadilla

Watch the video: Lost Places – the tragic story of the medieval city of Granadilla.

This medieval town is idyllically situated on a peninsula in the middle of a lake in Spain. Granadilla was founded by Arabs in the 9th century, but the place has a tragic history. Because Granadilla is a ghost village. A dam was built under the dictator Franco to dam the Alagón river. Granadilla was in the flood zone and had to be evacuated – a gross misjudgment. All residents were forcibly relocated, but Granadilla was never flooded.
The engineers had miscalculated.
Nevertheless, Spain still adheres to Franco’s flood decree – the residents were never allowed to return to their houses – what remains of the pretty place is a ghost town.
