Lost Place: Sunken Village in Italy appears every few years

Watch the video: Italian Atlantis – this sunken village only appears every few years.

Fabbriche di Careggine could be described as the Italian Atlantis.
Because the village in the province of Lucca sank into a lake decades ago.
The special thing: the place pops up again and again.
But first things first: The village was considered one of the most important iron production sites in Italy, then, in 1953, the village went under.
The reason: The construction of a gigantic dam with a height of 96 meters. The whole village sank under what is now the largest reservoir, Lake Vagli, in Tuscany.
But every now and then Fabbriche di Careggine reappears when the water is drained for maintenance work on the reservoir.
The sunken ghost village attracted numerous tourists to the region in 1958, 1974, 1983 and most recently in 1994.
Actually, the reservoir should be maintained once a decade, but now it should be that time again in 2023 after almost 30 years.
According to media reports, the former mayor of the municipality of Careggine announced in mid-February that the village, including its church built in 1590, should reappear next year.
