The Russian army evacuates the city of Kherson. It may be a tactical retreat, perhaps even an attempt to set a trap. Either way, it’s very bad news for Vladimir Putin.

Vladimir Putin has canceled his trip to the G-20 summit. That’s not surprising. The Russian President should have feared that some of the statesmen and women gathered in Jakarta would have avoided him, perhaps not even shaking his hand in public. In addition, the head of the Kremlin would have had to leave the room if his fiercest opponent, the Ukrainian Volodymyr Zelenskiy, had been connected to the huge conference screen from Kyiv while he was there.
