Losing weight – why it starts in the head

Year after year, many people want to shed their Christmas pounds. In an interview, psychological consultant Sabrina Fleisch explains what role our mind plays and why we should ask ourselves what needs we want to satisfy with weight loss.

Mrs Fleisch, your book is called: “Weight loss begins in the mind” – but how?

Sabrina Fleisch: Of course, a decision has to be made first. And that starts in the head. Above all, I need motivation to really want to do something to change something. I need a positive vision of the future that motivates and drives me. This gives me the energy I need to reach my goal. On the other hand, I also need a negative image of the future. That means: What happens if I don’t change? A negative vision of the future is associated with pain and suffering and that is why I am willing to change my behavior.
