“Long Night of Art” in Augsburg celebrates Elias Holl’s 450th birthday – Munich

Town hall, armory, Wertachbrucker Tor – Elias Holl is responsible for many of the pretty Renaissance buildings in Augsburg. For his 450th birthday, artists from the city and the surrounding area are now giving something back: as part of the “Long Night of Art” under the motto “#High up” they are dealing with Holl, architecture and the “striving for more” in more than 200 program items.

There are renaissance, classical, jazz and rock concerts, guided tours through Holl’s buildings (where many of the events also take place) and an Erich Kästner reading for children. However, the look back goes further than to the Renaissance – in the Römerhaus you can see the historical collection on the founding of the city: finds from the military, trade, traffic and everyday Roman life. The theater on stilts also brings Machiavelli’s “Il Principe” (“The Prince”), a philosophical work on forms of government, to a dramatic performance (roughly fitting into the thematic time frame) – in this case it doesn’t go high, but high off the stilts down.
