IC and ICE train journeys will become more expensive towards the end of the year. In long-distance transport, tariffs for the timetable change on December 11 would increase by an average of 4.9 percent, Deutsche Bahn announced on Wednesday. Like many other companies, they are forced to react to the massive price increases by adjusting their prices. However, this is still well below the current inflation rate of eight percent. For regional transport, a price increase of an average of four percent was announced in the German tariff association at the beginning of September. The saver and super saver prices, like the seat reservation, would not be more expensive. The prices for the Bahncards 25, 50 and 100 as well as for the route season tickets are to be increased by an average of 4.9 percent. The tariffs for the so-called flex prices, i.e. cancellable tickets, are increasing more. From December, these normal prices will cost an average of 6.9 percent more. Despite major punctuality problems, Deutsche Bahn was recently able to significantly increase its passenger numbers to the level before the Corona crisis. However, as one of the largest electricity consumers in Germany, it is also severely affected by rising energy costs. For the coming year, the additional costs were estimated at two billion euros.
