Long Covid in children and adolescents – health

Omikron is moving through the schools. How at risk are children and young people of suffering long-term damage after an infection? And how can you then treat them? A conversation with the infectiologist Uta Behrends.

From interview:

Vera Schroeder

Omikron primarily infects young people, especially children and young people who are only poorly protected from infection in moderately secured schools or who catch the virus in their families or friends. The incidences have been highest in these age groups for weeks. How much do you have to worry about that? Fortunately, minors only very rarely fall seriously ill with Corona. But what about Long Covid, i.e. symptoms that still occur weeks or months after an infection? Questions for Uta Behrends, Professor of Infectious Diseases and Immunobiology and coordinator of the Post-COVID Kids Bavaria model project at the Center for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at the University Hospital of the Technical University of Munich and the Munich Clinic.
