London: Swan blocks new subway line for hours

A swan blocked a new multi-billion pound underground link in London for hours. There are severe delays on the Elizabeth Line due to an obstacle, according to the Transport for London website on Thursday afternoon. “We apologize to customers whose journeys have been delayed or canceled due to a swan causing an obstruction on the Elizabeth Line,” the operator of London’s famous Tube said.

London train passengers trapped in carriages

Passengers complained on social media that they had been locked in the carriages without toilets for a long time. “How difficult is it to remove a swan please?” asked a traveler on Twitter.

The subway line in honor of Queen Elizabeth II was opened by the Queen herself a few months before her death in September 2022. The construction cost the equivalent of 22 billion euros. The line runs from Reading in the west via Heathrow Airport and the city center to the East London district of Abbey Wood and has only been open to traffic for just over a month along the entire route.
