They are gradually making their place alongside Bordeaux or Burgundy wines. The Loire Valley wines (vineyards of Nantes, Anjou, Saumur or Touraine) have just had a record year in terms of sales abroad, welcomed the interprofession InterLoire on Thursday. In 2021, after four years of growth, they reached “their highest level ever for exports, both in volume and in value”.
In detail, the turnover generated by these sales amounted to 373 million euros (+24.2%). It is in the United States, Belgium and the Netherlands, where people seem particularly fond of white wines and fine bubbles, that its development is most dynamic.
Further strengthen its presence
The movement should continue in the coming years with “two emblematic Loire grape varieties (Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin) in the top 5 of the most requested white grape varieties” by buyers.
A winning strategy for InterLoire, which announces that in 2022 it will invest some 3.2 million euros in an action plan “aiming to strengthen the presence of Loire Valley wines for export”. For example, around sixty international journalists are expected in Angers next week for tours and tastings.
