Lohr am Main: Children write, Snow White answers – Bavaria

Children and fairy tale enthusiasts can now write letters to Snow White at her supposed place of origin in Lower Franconia – and even get an answer. On Thursday, a colorfully painted and so-called Snow White mailbox was inaugurated in Lohr am Main (Main-Spessart district), as the city reported on Friday.

Children are invited to write their wishes, questions, stories or pictures to the figure with the seven dwarves. Each letter should then be answered individually. For people from outside there is even a postal address and an email address, as Jürgen Goldbach, the head of the tourist information office, said. “We are excited about the diverse letters from the young participants and look forward to reading their thoughts and ideas.”

This can all be traced back to a pharmacist and historian in the city who explained in 1986 that the fairy tale “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” must have its origins in Lohr am Main. Maria Sophia von Erthal, born in 1725, is said to be the model for the figure. Their homeland is in the Spessart, whose forest was once considered a paradise for wild animals. From there, the “Wieser Straße” mountain trail leads over seven mountains. In the region, people of short stature used to work in mining.
