Logic riddles from Cambridge application processes: do you know the solution?

Watch the video: Logic puzzles – can you answer this question from the Cambridge application process?

There are five patterns A through E. One pattern is the one you’re looking for. All others have exactly one error compared to the pattern they were looking for.
Take your time.
To solve the puzzle, we can simply compare each pattern to all other patterns.
Let’s start with field A and field B. If field A were what we are looking for, field B should only differ from field A in one point.
That would be correct in this case.
Now let’s compare field A and field C.
If field A were what we were looking for, field C should only deviate from field A in one point.
But that is not the case. Two fields differ here. So field A cannot be the pattern you are looking for. Neither does C.
Moving on, what if B was the pattern we were looking for. We have already compared field B and A. If we now compare field B and C, we find that they differ in two respects, so field B cannot be the pattern we are looking for either.
Accordingly, all three upper fields fail. But what about field D.
Compared to field C there are again two deviations. So we ruled out pattern D.
So pattern E must be the solution.
A quick check: Field D to Field A does indeed have a mismatch. The same applies to field B,
Field C
and field D
