Liz Truss is back – as strange and weird as ever

Liz Truss has written a book about her time in Downing Street. The British former prime minister sees herself as a “victim of the economic elite” – and of the fleas that her predecessor Boris Johnson is said to have brought into the house.

If things were normal in the kingdom, Liz Truss would be just a footnote in the country’s recent political history. Or, better yet, a particularly tricky pub quiz question: which prime minister was in office when Queen Elizabeth II died?

But little is normal these days in Great Britain, where since Brexit the prime ministers have been meeting at the government headquarters at 10 Downing Street. And where it has become socially acceptable in the highest political circles to talk about the country’s withdrawal from the European Convention on Human Rights.
