First personal meeting in Prague: the conservative prime minister explains her crisis plans to the chancellor. The two have one thing in common: the pressure at home.
Before this meeting, there was a certain tension in the air. Olaf Scholz met the new British Prime Minister Liz Truss for the first time in Prague on Thursday afternoon. “Overall” the atmosphere was “very friendly”, it was said afterwards. They talked about energy supply, offshore wind turbines and economic cooperation. In addition, according to German government circles, Truss had “explained the plans for relieving the burden on the country’s own population” to the chancellor. She’s been trying to do that at home for days, but so far she hasn’t succeeded, which is why the Prime Minister is experiencing what is probably a unique false start.
