Liverpool FC: Will Amorim be Klopp’s successor? – Sports

Ruben Amorim apparently has the best chance of succeeding Jürgen Klopp at Liverpool FC. According to Sky information, the 39-year-old Portuguese has already verbally agreed to work together with the Reds. Amorim is currently at the top of the Portuguese league table with Sporting Lisbon. Amorim’s contract in Lisbon runs until 2026, and a transfer fee of 15 to 20 million euros is being discussed.

Just a week ago, the former Portuguese international said he “couldn’t guarantee that he would stay at Sporting. I can’t say that as clearly as Xabi Alonso did in Leverkusen.” Amorim has quickly made a name for himself as a top trainer in his homeland. In 2019 he coached Sporting Braga, but was bought out of the contract by Sporting for ten million euros after just two months. In his first season he won the championship with Sporting – the first for the club in 19 years.

This year Amorim is heading for the double with Sporting. After the 2-1 derby against Benfica Lisbon with coach Roger Schmidt on Saturday, Sporting are four points ahead of the defending champions in the table and still have a game in hand. Sporting also eliminated their city rivals in the cup semi-finals.

Jürgen Klopp announced his departure from Liverpool FC at the end of the season. He has looked after the Reds as team manager since 2015 and is aiming for their second league title this season.
