Liverpool FC: Thiago Alcantara is injured – and cries on the bench

Thiago Alcantara Liverpool

Actually, Thiago should be in the starting XI of Liverpool FC in the League Cup final. However, the ex-Bayern star injured himself while warming up.

Thiago Alcantara injured himself while warming up ahead of Liverpool’s League Cup final against Chelsea. The 30-year-old Spaniard was briefly replaced by Naby Keita in the starting XI and watched the start of the game in tears.

Liverpool keeper Alisson Becker, who is represented in domestic cup competitions by Caoimhin Kelleher, comforted Thiago on the bench. Liverpool won the final 11-10 on penalties after trailing 0-0 in regulation time and extra time. Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who came on for the penalty shootout, missed decisively.

After the triumph, Thiago could laugh again. He posted a jubilant photo from the dressing room on social media and wrote: “Winners! Congratulations to the entire Liverpool family!”

The long-time Bayern Munich player has had to deal with a number of injuries over the course of his career. This season he had to pass in the fall because of calf problems and most recently because of hip problems.

He only celebrated his comeback at the beginning of February. For Liverpool he was therefore only in 20 competitive games on the pitch.
