MERKEL A EU LOUKACHENKO

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke over the phone on Monday about the migration crisis at the Polish border, which Brussels blames in Minsk, the Belarusian state news agency reported.

The two leaders “spoke about the difficult situation on the border between Belarus and the European Union, in particular the need for humanitarian aid for the refugees and migrants who are there”, German Chancellery spokesperson Steffen Seibert said.

The telephone interview, the first between Lukashenko and a European leader since his regime’s crackdown on a protest movement last year, lasted around 50 minutes, Belta news agency reported.
