Hello and welcome to this live broadcast devoted to orange vigilance broadcast by Météo France this Saturday. Four departments in the South-West are called for caution in the face of a risk of violent thunderstorms and heavy rain.

The sky will rumble over a large part of the country this Saturday, June 8. Météo France has placed three departments on orange “thunderstorm” and “rain-flooding” alert from 6 p.m. The departments concerned by “the intense rain-storm episode” are Gers, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Landes and Hautes-Pyrénées.

“During the evening of Saturday and the following night, a stormy deterioration begins in the southwest of Midi-Pyrénées. These storms are associated with high electrical and rainy intensities,” can we read in the 6 a.m. bulletin from Météo France.

Hail expected

“Uncertainties remain regarding the location of these most virulent storms,” specifies Météo France which adds that “Hail is also expected.”

“The departments on the fringes of those on orange alert may also be affected by locally strong phenomena”, warns the forecasting body.

In more detail, over the entire episode, cumulative rainfall could reach or exceed 100 mm at peak, Météo France added. In the morning, under chaotic skies, showers sometimes mixed with thunder will circulate from the north of Aquitaine and Limousin to Auvergne Rhône-Alpes and more locally from around the Gulf of Lion to the Provencal coast. In the afternoon, stormy showers will recede in the interior of PACA then towards the Southern Alps and sunny or cloudy weather will return to the Mediterranean regions.

On the other hand, storm activity will increase over the Pyrenees with some overflows into the plains south of the Garonne, as well as Limousin and Auvergne north of Rhône-Alpes, Franche-Comté and south of Alsace. Hail and heavy rain will be possible locally under thunderstorms.
