LIVE – Heat wave: the Minister of Health evokes a “high probability” of red vigilance for this Tuesday

The 40°C exceeded this afternoon in the South-East

The mercury begins to rise sharply on Tuesday, particularly in the South-East, where “40°C will be exceeded in the afternoon”, explains Météo-France.

At 1:30 p.m., it was already 39.6°C in Céret (Pyrénées-Orientales), 38.1°C in Vailhan (Hérault), 36.6°C in Calvi (Haute-Corse) and 26.7°C in Mont -Aigoual, in the Gard, which culminates at 1567 meters.

Is it possible to stagger your working hours?

For workers, especially outdoors, the health consequences of heat waves can be numerous and serious.

If the companies must put in place measures to protect employees, what about the schedules? Is it possible to shift working hours to avoid the hottest hours?

The Labor Code does not address this point and such a decision depends on case-by-case agreements between management and employees (or staff representatives). But as the government says, “workload, schedules, and more generally the organization of work must be adjusted to guarantee the health and safety of workers throughout the red vigilance period”.

What are the obligations of companies towards employees?

In the event of strong heat (yellow, orange or red warning), the employer must set up a work organization and suitable means.

But for some, labor law is no longer adapted to the multiplication and intensification of heat waves.

Departments could switch to red vigilance

In areas where temperatures are particularly high, the alert level could go up a notch.

In its bulletin, Météo-France indicates that “the duration and intensity of this episode could require an evolution of vigilance towards a worsening, especially on Drôme / Ardèche (even Vaucluse and Gard), on the map of (Monday ) 16 hours”.

Several departments in orange vigilance are therefore at risk of falling into the red.

50 departments placed on heatwave orange vigilance
