Lipedema disease: “I thought that was my way of being fat” – Panorama

During puberty, Miriam Zaki’s body became more and more shapeless, she gained weight in her legs and arms, and tormented herself through dieting, but nothing helped. Until the 26-year-old found out that she had a fat distribution disorder.

Miriam Zaki was fat. And it was her fault. That’s how she internalized it. She no longer wore shorts or skirts since a teacher warned her that if she got even fatter, she would no longer fit between two rows of tables. She was 14 at the time. Therefore there are hardly any photos of her bare legs from the time “before”. This is what Miriam Zaki called her life until her operation in July. Only since the operation has she really understood her situation. She has a fat distribution disorder, lipedema. That means: she couldn’t have changed her figure.
