It doesn’t always have to be Google, Adobe or Microsoft: almost 70 percent of all German companies use loud a survey by the business association Bitkom open source software. This can be the Firefox browser, the image editing program Gimp, the text program Open Office – but also software on servers that normal office users do not come into contact with. Open source means that developers publish the source code of their programs. It can be viewed by everyone and can be used and further developed free of charge without license fees.
