Anyone who attacks a person in the open-air swimming pool at noon should sit before the judge in the evening. This is what CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann calls for. The judiciary must also take tougher action against radical climate activists – for example with preventive custody.

Dhe new CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann has spoken out in favor of tougher action against violent offenders in outdoor pools. “What’s happening in the outdoor pools is simply antisocial: families who can’t afford a vacation or a pool in their own garden have to watch in the outdoor pool how young men, often with a migration background, become violent,” said Linnemann “Picture on Sunday”. A strong rule of law is needed.

Linneman called for summary proceedings against the perpetrators. “Anyone who attacks people in the outdoor pool at noon has to sit in front of the judge in the evening and be sentenced. Even on weekends. The Code of Criminal Procedure provides that.” Public prosecutors can apply for a decision in an expedited procedure in the case of simple facts or if there is clear evidence. A summary court may sentence the accused to a maximum of one year in prison.

The level of punishment must also be fully exhausted after acts of violence in the outdoor pool, “up to and including imprisonment,” said Linnemann. Recently there had been violent clashes in outdoor pools in Berlin, and the Columbiabad in the Neukölln district had to be evacuated several times. Problems often arise in the pool.

Linnemann also called for more consistent action against radical climate activists who cling to the streets. “Most of them are repeat offenders, some can even be described as intensive offenders.” In Bavaria, some activists were taken into preventive custody for weeks. Linnemann described this measure as “exemplary”. Longer prison sentences would also have to be imposed for repeat offenses. “Here the rule of law must no longer be allowed to be danced around on its nose. Otherwise we’ll make ourselves look ridiculous.”

In the interview, the CDU politician confirmed that there was a firewall between his party and the AfD. “There will be no cooperation with the AfD – neither in the federal government nor in the federal states,” said Linnemann. When asked whether the Christian Democrats would have to choose between Left and AfD after the state elections in East Germany next year, he explained: “The question does not arise, our decisions on demarcation are clear. It is our job to ensure that the CDU becomes as strong as possible.”
