The new Twitter boss has been in office for a few days. With a first e-mail, she turned to her new team – and spoke Elon Musk from the soul.

An email with the subject “Building Twitter 2.0 Together” is the first official address from new Twitter boss Linda Yaccarino to her team and the public. On Monday, she sent the message to everyone who remained after the numerous layoffs since Elon Musk took over. With her email, she addresses a lot of what Elon Musk had previously proclaimed – above all the often-mentioned “global village square” that Musk sees in his social network.

“Why Twitter?” Linda Yaccarino gives a long answer

At the beginning of her email, she answers a question that she says is very often asked. “Why Twitter?” She elaborates: “From space exploration to electric vehicles – Elon knew these industries needed a change, so he did it. Lately it has become increasingly clear that the global village square also needs a change to bring civilization through the to encourage unfiltered information sharing and open dialogue about the things that matter most to us.”

So far no news. She then tries to carry out her idea of the village square in question. “Have you ever had a conversation with someone who’s particularly insightful and thought, ‘You’re brilliant – everyone should get a chance to hear that. Or: I learn so much from you – can we repeat that? Or maybe it’s as simple as: You should be free to speak your mind. We all should.”

She announces: “Here comes Twitter 2.0” – that’s also known, because that’s what Musk called the project in an internal e-mail to all employees, which he sent shortly after taking over the platform.

It continues: “Twitter is committed to becoming the world’s most accurate, real-time information resource and global communications hub. We are about to make history – and that’s no empty promise. It’s OUR reality.”

Yaccarino can’t just look ahead

This is followed by an eloquent address to the employees who have not made any particularly pleasant changes over the past few months. As a reminder: Offices have been emptied, space has been vacated, caretaker services have been canceled and all the conveniences of the past have been removed. In addition, Twitter has brought some lawsuits into the house due to the layoffs and unpaid bills, which will still have to be clarified under Yaccarino’s leadership.

Looking ahead, she writes: “When you start embracing this powerful vision, literally anything is possible. You have to really believe in it – and work hard for it. And in this moment of total reinvention, we have the opportunity , to reach across borders, to forge new partnerships, celebrate new voices and build something together that can change the world. And from what I can tell so far, you are all made for it.”

Her speech does not contain any concrete information about how the company is currently doing, what the next task is and how she plans to get Twitter back into calm waters after the chaotic clearing.

But she immediately attaches a list of unclear tasks: You have to think big, transform yourself and do everything together. Because, according to the CEO: “It’s rare that we have the chance to put a new future in the hands of every person, every partner and every content creator on this planet.”

She closes the email with the words: “That’s exactly why I’m here – with all of you.”

Linda Yaccarino also published her email via Twitter. Musk, although currently very active on his platform, has not yet responded.
