Lin-Manuel Miranda is nominated for an Oscar but will not be attending the gala. His wife has contracted the coronavirus.

For Lin-Manuel Miranda (42), this year’s Oscars could mean a very special highlight in his career. However, the actor and composer will not be attending the gala on the night of March 28th. He announced this on Twitter.

Miranda shared that his wife, Vanessa Nadal, to whom he has been married since 2010, has tested positive for the coronavirus. His children Sebastian (7), Francisco (4) and he are negative, but “out of caution” he will not come to the Academy Awards.

Another award for “EGOT” status

He is nominated for best song with “Dos Oruguitas” from the film “Encanto”. Should he outdo opponents like Billie Eilish (20) or Beyoncé (40), Miranda would have “EGOT” status. This stands for winning an Emmys, Grammys, Oscars and Tony Awards, i.e. the four most important prizes in the US entertainment industry, in regular categories at least once.

Miranda has already won the Emmy twice, and he has won the Grammy Award and the Tony Award three times each. The “EGOT” winners include only a few stars, including musician John Legend (43), composer Andrew Lloyd Webber (74) and actress Whoopi Goldberg (66).
