Limbach: “Nobody is stopping me from becoming smarter overnight” – Economics

After two hours, Benjamin Limbach can even smile again. The shine on his high forehead still reveals something of the tension with which North Rhine-Westphalia’s Minister of Justice went into this crisis meeting of the Legal Affairs Committee in the state parliament. But the worst is behind him. Now the 54-year-old lawyer even manages to make a little joke. To explain why – after weeks of protests – he is now revoking his plan to split up a main department in the Cologne public prosecutor’s office and thus presumably weaken explosive investigations against tax fraudsters worth millions, the Rhinelander refers to his compatriot Konrad Adenauer. The former Chancellor famously said: “Nobody is stopping me from becoming wiser overnight.”
