Lille sets a record by crushing Golden Lion fans 12-0

In a football match without suspense, LOSC still managed to delight its audience on Saturday by offering them a record. At home, Lille started the year with a bang by crushing the Golden Lion (12-0) from Martinique, to reach the round of 16 of the Coupe de France.

At the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, the fifth in Ligue 1 took place against Martinican amateurs from Regional 1, erasing a goal difference record dating from 1945, against Saint-Quentin (12-1). This offensive festival was marked by the hat-tricks of Edon Zhegrova (33rd, 41st, 42nd) Jonathan David (25th, 36th, 75th) as well as the doubles of Yusuf Yazici (11th, 45th) and Hakon Haraldsson (64th, 78th). Tiago Santos (57th) and Amine Messoussa (89th) joined the party.

Haraldsson builds confidence

Facing the amateurs based in Saint-Joseph, a town of 16,000 inhabitants located in the center of Martinique, Paulo Fonseca had decided to field his best possible team, undoubtedly to avoid potential disillusionment within this competition rich in surprises. From the outset, his players showed great seriousness, in a light rain, confiscating the ball and working to recover it when they did not have it.

Double passer then triple scorer, Kosovar Edon Zhegrova shone during this offensive orgy, even scoring two goals in quick succession, before the break, in his favorite position: on the right side, rolling in strikes with his left foot. An enigma of the club since his arrival in the North last summer, the young Icelandic Hakon Haraldsson (20 years old) for his part took advantage of this meeting to build up confidence.

The Mastiffs thus made short work of the Lions, returning to victory after concluding the year 2023 with a defeat which left a stain on Strasbourg (2-1). Six-time winner of the Coupe de France (1946, 1947, 1948, 1953, 1955, 2011), LOSC therefore continues its journey in the event.
