Like Amira and Oliver Pocher: Unfollow on Instagram – that’s it

When do you know that the love between celebrities has irrevocably ended? When the exes no longer follow each other on Instagram – like Amira and Oliver Pocher recently. A small click with a big impact.

In times of social media, when prominent couples break up, it usually goes something like this: If no photos together are published on Instagram for a long time, that’s not a good sign; if shared photos disappear from the accounts, an even worse situation; and if those affected unfollow each other, it is an almost certain indication that a pompous breakup post will be published within the next few hours in which both of them babble about a decision that was of course made “in all friendship and mutual appreciation after careful consideration.”

Burying love in public is not easy, of course. After all, there are no rules for dealing with heartbreak on social media. Do you continue to like the photos of your ex-partner on Instagram in order to underline a breakup that was amicable and mature? True to the motto: “Hey, we continue to support each other, our lives may no longer fit together, but we still feel a deep inner connection! So here’s a like for this mirror selfie!” Or do you decide on the ultimate break-up signal of the digital age – and press the unfollow button?
