The domination of Stade Rennais was clear, this Sunday, in the Breton derby against Brest (2-0). Bruno Genesio’s team made short work of Brestois, with 71% possession at the break, and above all a host of chances, as evidenced by the total of six shots on target out of eleven attempts during the first act.
Half an hour into the game, Brest had only touched four balls in the opposing area, against fourteen on the Rennes side. Genesio’s men didn’t wait long to shine. Former Lyonnais Martin Terrier deceived Marco Bizot with a shot from the right at the near post (14th) but referee Johan Hamel canceled the goal for a logical offside position.
The Rennais continued to push and logically opened the scoring thanks to a header from Gaëtan Laborde (20th), author of his 8th goal of the season in Ligue 1, on a magnificent cross with finesse from Lovro Majer. Terrier found the post a few minutes later on a curled shot 30 yards from goal (42nd).
Marin Terrier rewarded
During the second period, the Brestois suffered less but were still able to thank their Dutch goalkeeper, Bizot, author of six saves over the whole meeting. He maintained Brest hopes by avoiding the break goal for a long time, especially against Serhou Guirassy (83rd).
This 2-0 goal finally came at the very end of the game (90th). On a corner taken by Kamaldeen Sulemana, Loïc Badé rose to extend the ball with his head towards the far post, where Terrier, on the lookout, deceived Bizot, passing very close to a new stop on his line.
With this victory, the Rennais overtake Monaco in the standings and now find themselves in fifth place, while the Brestois remain 13th.
