Ligue 1 – Investigation opened after scenes of violence and racist insults on the sidelines of Lyon – Marseille

These are scenes, and words, that we would never want to see or hear again. On the sidelines of OL’s defeat on their home turf against Igor Tudor’s Marseillais, incidents reportedly took place on the forecourt of Groupama Stadium. If, in the stadium, the end of the match was also electric, with in particular the Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes taken to task by some of the supporters of the north bend, outside the stadium, the situation would have degenerated.

A video widely relayed on social networks, in which racist insults are uttered, shows a scene of physical violence against a man, without anyone knowing more about the origin of this serious incident.

People identified

Between 10:30 p.m. and 10:50 p.m., i.e. after the final whistle, the police intervened “to freeze a situation related to a fight“outside the south corner of Groupama Stadium, explains the Rhône prefecture, confirming information from the Progress and RMC Sport. Two supporters were injured, adds the prefecture, without specifying which club, and one was taken care of by the emergency services.

Two people were then arrested. According to the same source, other incidents around 11 p.m. required a new intervention by the police, who used tear gas to disperse people who threw security barriers at them. Contacted by AFP, Olympique Lyonnais recognized incidents around the stadium and the parking lot, and mentioned a fight filmed.

“OL strongly condemns the violence and the comments we hear on the video“, reacted the club, which notes that, for the moment, no complaint has been filed and encourages them to do so. In order to prevent the risk of disturbing public order, an order from the prefecture limited the number of Marseille supporters to 400 on the evening of the match, won by OM (2-1).
